Notes: See pp. 285-86 for a highly negative assessment of Warsaw’s Jews ("The ancient Jews are among the most superstitious, filthy, and foul-smelling beings to be found. ... Modern Jews are wealthy, intelligent and refined"). Chap. 39 characterizes the Russian Jews as extremely filthy and degraded.
